AT KUKU ROAD, MANAKAU

From the first inception of hunting in the Horowhonua district, interest in the sport has quickly and surely increased and it must be vary gratifying to tlioso who have spared neither pains nor expense in working if or the ficlvimoenient of the sport, to know that their efforts have met with such marked success. This year's hunting ijrjogramme closen -with the moot at Otaki on Gth August, and it is proposed to finish i'}; the season with an afternoon's fun equally interesting to huntsmen and the public in the form of a point-to-point steeplechase meeting. With this object in view a mooting of members was held ai Manakau on Friday evening last, 26th inst. There was a large attendance, principally from Otaki and Manakau, Levin being represented by the secretary only Proceedings throughout were ury enthusiastic, ami it was arranged to hold the meeting on Wednesday afternoon, 21st September, on Mr J. R. MoDonnfd's property, Kukii roajj Manakau. Trophies were presented by Messrs T. Bevan, Jun., F Burnell/S. J. Bcattie, W. Kirkley, W. M. Simcox, Tom O'Rourke, A. Drake, J. G. Jamieson, A .Strawbridge and T. Taylor. Tlieso will be competed for in two steeplechases one of three miles for .heavy weigMs, and one of two miles for lightweights. There will also bo a members' flat race, horses to be nominated by ladies, and a farmers' raco, o , miles, for legitimate farm their sons. Horses competing in tM Imntors events are to be legitimate 'hunters, owned by financial members of the Manawatu Hunt, nr.d to be ridden by members of the Manawatu Hunt.

Arrangements will be made for tbt supply of afternoon tea on the ground at a nominal chair go. Given fins weather there showld be a large attendance of the public for the sport is one that should comment itself to all those who are at nil fond of horses. No charge will be made for admission to the grounds.
