There was a big muster of tho members of the Debating Society in the Druids' Hall on Tuesday night to hear Mr J. Galland lectuirc on the "Life and Works of Sir AValtei Scott." Tho lecturer spoke for ovei one hour and was listened to attentively. FTo faro a very complete sketch of the life and works of the great author. He spoke of his poems and his indomitable fight against ai"|verfitv at (lie latter end of his life. At the conclusion of liis address Mr Oallnml gave several selections from Ids poems. All - G. IT. Gibb also gave an excellent reading from "fvanlme." Next week Mr 10. J. Judd will move that "Trial hv jury should be abolished." He will be opposed by Air C. F. lOxall.
