PROCEEDINGS IN COURT.
REMANDED FOR RIGHT LAYS. Mr B. R. Gardener, J.P., sat this morning to undertake tihe preliminary stages of the court proceedings against the three accused'. v The charge sheet showed that the men were named l respectively Jolin lEa.rnahaw, Henrv Robert Hunt, aiv' Leslie Ellis. Earnshaw, when arrested, had £14 12s 4cli on him, Hunt liiml 3d, and Ellis no monev. THE OEFEN'CE.' Tlio offence charged was as follows:—"On 21st August, 1910, at Levin, did burgulariouslv break and enter by night the dwelling-house of Joilin Berryman, and steal therein one safe value about £15, containing £G0 13s 3.} din money, eighteen Cheques value about £'"50, one postal note for ss, five gold rings value £23 10s, one gold tie pin value £6, one lady's gold watch and chain value £10, one gold locket and chain value £1, one lady's silver watch value £1, one gent's gold watch value £8, one silver-mounted purse value 10s. one towel value Is; total value, £175 10s 3£d, the property oi ; John Berryman." The police asked for a remand un til Tuesday, 30th August. The ac cused made no objection. The,> made no application for bail, anr tliey were removed in custody. All three are young men. The eldest gives his ago as 28, and the as 21.
