Mr Asq 11 iMi, in n letter to tlio Lord Mayor of London. shited that the_ Government had considered the various schemes to commemorate t.ho reign of King Ftlward VTI. The Government was of opinion that local memorials would be more suitable tlmn n national ono, oacli country and large city deciding on tlie type of memorial according to local conditions. Mr Asquith suggested that the Tjord Mayor should iii'iiugurato the London memorial. Sir John Km ill has replied complying with, the .suggestion.
