—._—« ■ VARIOUS RULINGS. The New Zealand Hockey Referees' Association held its monthly meeting last Wednesday at C'hristeliuivh. A letter was received front the Auckland Association asking for an i interpretation <>t the words ''homeAssociation" in rule 17. It was resolved to reply that the rule 'applied to the local Association. Tho Auckland Association also | wrote reporting that the Auekaiid Hockey Association was supporting the Referees' Association in every possible manner, and that this had had the effect of improving tho tone of the game up there, rough play being conspicuous by it.s absence. A request was also made by the Auckland Association for a ruling in reference to the treatment meted out to a referee at the Thames. The matter was referred hack tor the Auckland Association to deal with. The Wellington Association asked for a ruling on rule 10. referring to "corner-hits,'' and quoted a. case in dispute. The secretary was instructed to forward the Assaciation's mini KThe "Wairarapa Referees' Association asked for a ruling on rule 11. relating to "offff-side." The request was referred to the management committee to reply to.. A sinula) request received from the South Canterbury Association was similarly doalfc with. The Manawatu Association askeu for an interpretation of the penalty provided by paragraph b. sub-section 2. of rule L-'i, relating to the words "inside the circle." The secretary reported that the management committee had dealt with the matter, and a reply had been forwarded as follows:-"A penalty bully cannot be given for sticks in the circle, as t he sub-section quoted is clear on the matter, tlie words in brackets having particular reference to tho e.ase quoted."
