This is the largest woman's organisation in the world, numbering about a. million, members, and being established in every civilised country in the world except Russia. The Union, which has stood the test of thirty-five years, has .passed the experimental stage and is worthy of attention. Besides the total abstinence work, the Union has many social agencies, fnvercargill lias its "Victoria Home for Friendless Girls," which, in the seventeen years of its existence lias so gained the public confidence that the Citizens' Committee .allocated to it nearly fifty pounds of the recent Hospital Saturday collection. Titnaru, Dunedin and 6reymoiit.li branches each own a Sailors' Rest, and Westport is pushing forward a scheme for similar institution. Gaols, hospitals, old men's homes, etc., are visited and cheered, and other good works helped forward. The lecture on "Girls and Their ]/overs" has drawn largo audiences in ot.lver parts of the country, being replete with humourous passages, as well as giving excellent advice on a, very important topic. Literature of a specially useful character to both the young folks .and their mothers will be 011 sale"at both meetings. The Thursday afternoon gathering is to bo enlivened 'by "the cup. that cheers."
