Hoax on Socialists.
IMPKHSOXATIXG A LORD. GVir-:idera.ble .sui-prise was felt recently when the Hon. Charles Lister, only son of Lord Pibblosdale, was reported as addressing a meeting of the Independent Labour Party at Rochdale, in Lancashire, in company with Mr Victor Grayson, and giving utterance to Socialistic sentiments. The speaker said that he hoped to live to see the day when the aristocrats would be seen parading the .streifts of Loudon with a banner bearing the inscription : "Curs." your charity; wo want work." Afterwards he sent a note, to the newspaper reporters requesting them not to mention It's speech. Later they were verbally threatened with prosecution if they published his remarks. The hoax was not discovered till some time later, when the real .Mr Lister wrote to the Press stating that he must have been successfully impersonated. and disclaiming all responsibility for the sentiments ascribed to .him.
