A meeting of the Horowhenna Hockey Association's Management Committee was held last night, in Messrs Smart and Thome's office, Oxford street, Levin, to consider the claim of Hui Mai to a win in the game, Rovers v. Hui Mai, which should have been played at Levin on the 20th, but owing to the nonarrival of the referee could not be played. Htii Mai stated (1) that they were ou the ground at 2.45 p.m. and the Rovers did not turn up till tf.lo, being twenty-five minutes late; (2) there was no referee, and the local team was responsiblo for this. The Rovers stated they were on the ground at 3 o'clock, and that it was the fault of the referee not turning up that kept the game from being played.
After considering the matter, it was resolved that the secretary write Hui Mai: (1) That the Rovers were ready to pla.v at 3 p.m.: (2) that, tho Association is responsible for tin' referees and not the home team (3) that w here two teams from the same town are playing either at home or away, there is a difficulty of obtaining referees on the sour of the moment- when disappointed by the referee; (4) that seeing ib was not the fault of either team, the match bo played at the end of the season on neutral ground (Oban). YESTERDAY'S GAMES. HAHn (7) v. KOVBKS (1). 'I be Hovel's journeyed to Manakati yesterday and played Rahui. They took a very indifferent team, and were minus the services of Allan, so that they played ten men ins6ead oi the full complement. Rahui completely got tho better of them, and piled on six goals in the first half. The Hovers were thoroughly demoralised in this half, and scarcely ever got a hit at goal. fn the second moiety, they showed much better form, and some fino combination was witnessed. From a smart pass by Arnold, Thome got a good goal for the Hovers, but they were unable to increase their score, -and tho game ended in a victory for Rahui by 7 goals to 1. Tliorne, Smart, and Pettitt played well for tho losers, and Laurie put in a lot of good work. MAXAKAU (1) v. OTAKI (0). The above match W£\s played yesterday, at Otaki, in bright weather. Otaki won the toss and played with the sun behind them. The home team became aggressive at- once, but the Manakau defence proved sound, Martin saving once or twice when things looked awkward. Bevan made some desperate attempts to penetrate tho Reds defence, but, however, they were not to be beaten. Ratul was playing a hard game, but Re van proved a big thorn in bis side, continually beating him. Half-time arrived with no seorie. The Otaki forwards on tho resumption, went away with a swing and kept busy for a few minutes. Atkins, Nees and Bennett put in a good bit of combination, and narrowly missed scoring. The visiting forwards were now playing a greatly improved game, and several (times ruul th© Otaki <lofe-nco in trouble. B.nght, ivlio was playi'm* an off-side game, nearly scored. From the 25 yards bully, Alanakau took Possession and after the forwards ,had mado a hnei run. Atkins scored amidst great enthusiasm.
