DEPUTATION TO TIUG .MINISTER 01? PUBLIC WORKS. Two matters of importance to residents within the Horowhonua, County wwc brauglit under the notico of the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Melvenzie, hy a deputation from the County Council yesterday afternoon. Hie deputation consisted of Messrs Watson (chairman of the council) and Malcolm (county engineer), and was introduced by Mr W. 11. Field. The Minister's attention was first drawn to a proposal made by the county some years ago to close a road at Muliunoa, nei»r Ohau. which was found impracticable to work, and to substitute for it. a more direct and satisfactory route. Tt was stated that considorjf'blo illconvenience had been caused to a largo number of settlers since departmental objection was raised to tho proposed exchange. After hearing the representations made the Minister agreed that it would ho to the best, interests of the district to accerlo to the wishes of lie council in the matter. Tho deputation also discussed the withholding of the subsidy promised last year for tho Taunc:ifi bridge across the Otaki river. The bridge had recently been erected, but the departmental engineer reported that some alterations were m ,r, e<\«arv before ho subsidy Could be n°i'l.
