Harness Dressing.
A good harness blacking is composed of -loz of glue <>r gelatine, 3oz of gum ambic, and three-quaiters of a pint of water. Dissolve tihosii by heat, and add (ioz of treacle and Goz of ivory black in veny fine powder. Gently evaporte with conwteuit stirring iimtil a proper consistency when cold. Bottlo and cork securely when nearly cold. Warm the bottle to thin the composition, if necessary, before use. This does ndt resist the wet but the following composition does: Take 2oz mutton suet nn<l fi oz of pimiified beeswax, melt and add to it 6ox of sugar candy in fuiie ])owdor, 2oz of soft swap, 2Joz of lamp-black, and Joz of indigo in fine- powder. When .the ingredients have been thorotighly incorporated add a quarter of ia pint of turpentine, and pour the. mixture itiito pelts or tins. Thcsei blackings are used by evenly spreading a little over the leather, and then polishing by gentle friction wfth a brush or soft rubber. A good polish for brown leather is made as follows: loz beeswax. 10oz white wax, Joz of eastile soap. Scraps all these ingredients very finely, and put all together inito *a bafiin nnd add half a pinffi of best turpentine. Lot it stand for 21 hours, then stir in a pint of boiling wif-r-r. nri'l .tfrir one w.ay until cold. thrill bcttle.
