The Chronicle. PUBLISHED DAILY WEDNESDAY, JULY 20, 1910. ARBOR DAY.
To-day is Arbor Day, and, a holiday for some people. In Levin there is 110 observance of the day, cilniefly because no 0110 has had sp:>w time in which to help forward, the proposal to celebrate it. It is an excellent idea to lvave annual celebrations of Arbor Day, to the end that something may be done for posterity's benefit by those who are reaping 'to-(ky the benefit of what was done for them in this land by their progenitors. As a poet of the people once olxse.rvod', "He who plants a tr.ee he plants youth ; vigour Won for centuries 'in sooth ; life of timo that .hails eternity." We are sorry that Levin, for the reasons given in yesterday's Chronicle, has failed to take any uteps to carry out tiho tree planting which is urgently needed in these parts, but we have hopes that next year there will be a real celebration of the day and its objects in our midst.
