Tlic sale of work under the mispices of tlie 'Methodist Ladies' Guild which was held yesterday in the Century Hall, proved an unqualified success, iin spite of the inclement weather. The children's ship realised over Clo, and the total proceeds amnuuted to nearly CM. Mr Richard Prouse. formally declared the sale open, 'and the ship was launched and manned by Winnie Walker and ivy Pink. The girl caplains were Dorothy Goldsmith and Marjorie Adkin, <nlid the hoy captains Alfred Gray and Willie Walker. The sweets stall presided over bv the Yon 112: Ladies' Bible Class did a splendid business. The .<ense 'of .justice was strong in King Edward. Some years ago a valuable ring was missed from the chamibe.r of a guest in the palace, and suspicion fell upon one o-f the maids. Long afterwards the furniture of the room occupied by the visitor was sent to an upholsterer, who found the missing ring under the cushions. The discovery was renorted to His Majesty, who immediately sent for the housekeeper and asked what had become of the maid. Tt was told that she had been dismissed lone; a<ro. "Find out immediately where she is," was the 'King's command, "and offer her a place of (Trenter res-ponsibilitv in the household." Greenstone has .since the early days I)ecu found iu various parts of the Coast. An extraordinary large block has recently been unoarthed at Ca I highlit ns, the historic mining settlement situate between Waintea and Stratford. Messrs Havill and party last week, in their sluicing claim, laid bane a mammoth greenstone boulder, measuring seven feet long and averaged iu thickness from eighteen inches to four IVet, and weighing approximately two tons. This particular stone should Drove a good one. Front all aippeciranetvs it is flawless, being absolutely .free from extraneous strata so commonly found in greenstone of a larger size. Il'ragmen,ts broken off go to sihow that the stone is light in colour and of a limpid nature. Light greenstono is highly prized by the lapidarists and the lucky miners should obtain a liugh price for their find. We understand that this is the first time in tihe history of the Coast that greensitoiM' has been found in such large size free from faults.
