THE LIBRARY SITE.

To the Kilitor Sir.-- T am greatly amused ovei the diisciission re tho library site. This question ]\;}S been cropping up and down like a jack-in-the-box for ■about eight-ten months, belt we are a, long way off settlement. Our worthy Mayor presented to the Borough of I.evin a section of ground opposite the public school, and this was the birth of the great conl'.iroversy that exists. Along caniti th;" financial octupu.se.s of Levin, who .strangled the suggestion. In tonight's paper there are letters from "Ratepayer" and "Agitator," who oonrVni'ii the section over the railway line. 1 beg to inform "Ratepayer" and "Agitator" that there is more danger in crossing the public street. If that argument was brought fo bear in a city like Wellington, where there are trains every five 'minutes, his suggestions would be blown out like one of the old canons on Pipitea Point, Wellington. I would like to inform the ratepayers that these bogies are brought about when vested interest is at stake. I think the Mayor and the three: councillors who supported the compact .'•food to their guns as honouraible men. Some of our financial oitizeus think unless the. library is adjacent to some of their property it is in the wrong place. This question of the library site will not be settled unless a referendum of the ratepayers is taken, as the major part of the councillors who are fiuancical oetupuse.s of Levin, do not consider the ratepayers' first and themselves after. Vested interest is predominated 'on every occasion ; that is why the great enmity exists between Levin and Weraroa. T fail to see how itlhe citizens ran adjust such matters as library and other important ques•lions which are affecting the vital interest of this borough, unluss tliey support men Math some nualifieatioii to represent them on the Roromdi Ooinn-il—.Mislead of vested interest. Mr Editor, hoping you will let this see the light of day.—Yours, etc., TRAVELLER.
