HUNTING NEWS.
(.My Follower.)
Pe.i feet weather favoured tho Manawatu Hunt for their moot ait Jleatherlea, Levin, on Saturday .afternoon, which, took placo chiefly over Itiho lauds of .Mr J. P.. McDonald and a portion of Air John Levies' property. rufortunately there was some delay in starting, owing to the hounds and the huntsman's horses having been inadvertently sent to 'Wanganui instead of Levin. They eventually came down on the Aiickhuid express, and were .shipped ,alti Koputaroa, arriving at Poroualawliao, the place .arranged for the throw-off. at about ,'1 p.m. .Mr J. G. .Jamieson immediately set off on Hlack Patch to lay the 'trail. His horse fenced very cleverly, and went I'iigbt on. without fault. After the prc.senibed time the hounds weiv cast loose and immediately took up the scent, racing off in full cry. They were in groat fettle, and ran particularly well. The field of twenty odd huntsmen followed in more or less straggling order, all the best jumpers gradually working their way to ,'the lead. ' .
The course .selected was an ideal one, wbnut seven miles long, over perfect hunting country and 'included stubble, newly ploughed fields, turnip paddocks, and good clear grass paddocks which iiiidueod the riders to let their lionsps out for an oxhiliniiting gallop. Tim fences were good ones, well and substantiakIv erected, and credit is duo to Mr •Fas. Cameron, who had charge of this department. Tlie master, Mr Geo. Shannon, of Talniorston, was in charge of tho field. Ho was greeted with pleasure by all the local huntsmen, as was also the president (Mr ]]. D. 15u.'hanaii) and the other visitors from Palmers ton. After the run, 'the followers wvo invited hy Mrs J. R. McDonald to tho homestead, where refreshments and afternoon tea were served to the enthusiastic but thirsty huntsmen. Acts of hospitality .such as tin's are much appreciated by those taking part .and add greatly to the pleasure of the afternoon's spurt. .Muck regret was expressed at tho aibsonee of Mr McDonald, who was unavoidably away from home.
