In an article in the oiwirent niuniber of the Canterbury Agricultural College Magazine on pormanent pasture for heavy'lands, Dr V. W. Hi-1-gendorf says that tihe following is an excellent mixture:—litalian lye olb, perennial rye 01b, red cloven 21'b, white clover lib, dsike 21b, cocksfoot Gib, foxtail Glib, timothy 31b, and dogstail 111), a total seeding of 321b, costing a'bout lls per acre. The character of the land considered in, the artinle is Itihe rich heavy, somewhat peaty or clayey soil, apt to be rather wet in winter that is to be found in all the richest farming districts an Canltei-hury. The seeding should bo modified, according to conditions; on the heaviest and wettest lands increase the timothy, foxtail and alsike, and diminish the perennial rye, cocksfoot and red Hover. Tlie ra't'her hinh expenditure must bo re-o-jmM "ns being spread over tihe total nnmhn or years it will Inst for, and it will not be considered excessive for tho uxurinnt and .pennaiient pasture that u-i.|l result under ordinarily favourable- conditions.
