Considerable dissatisfaction exists amongst local residents regarding delays 'in procuring monies authorised under one or other of the Government Loans to Settlers Acts. There lhas been talk, during the last week, of sending a petition to tire Government asking for improvement in the matter of paying over authorised loan moneys, as a good deal of inconvenience is caused to householders and tradesmen; alike by the delays that "have been experienced already. What is required., it is said, is an authority for paying over to contractors of two thirds or fill roe-fourths of their total amount s ; whenever the Government vainer is prepared to givo n certificate that the Tvork done justifies such a. course. During 1909. 071 persons were killed .and 7.592 were injured on Uritish railways. Of these numbers 831 and 2118 respectively were passengers.
