HOCKEY.

A LKTTKi; Kl'OM. "\\TJ/LTXGTOX. Air Cyril Wilson, u'lio went to Wellington from Levin it fW weeks ago, seat the " Chronicle" ltho following in,teriesting notes on hockey matters : — " Apropos ol the forthcoming hockey match between the Horou'lheoiiii reps, and Wellington, the following remarks on the Ihnvke's Hay v. Wellington shield match (played here last Saturday) may be ft' soine interest to hockeyitos in tlie Levin distriot.

"On Saturday I had the .pleasure of witnessing amo of the best exhiIjitifuxs of hockey ever seen in Wellington, viz., the Hawke's liny v. Wellington shield match. Rip;!it throughout a hard fought and tremendously fast game, the class <>1 hockey was excellent, and at times the individual play was brilliant. Hawke's Ua.v had, perhaps, "the better combination, and had exceedingly hard luck in not annexing the shield, as right tip to a few minutes of time they were leading hv' 1 goal <to nil, and Wellington's equalising score was the simplest goal imaginable. The score being equal at the call of time, extra time had to bo played, and for ton- minutes the 'Mioii.salid ■ odd spectators were treated to a mosSt exciting exhibition, .and when Wellington's winning goal was scored the enthusiasm was tremendous. "Hockey an Wellingtofl is certainly growing rapidly in public favour. After seeing Saturday's game, T hope the Horowhenua Association won't mind my saying that if its teaim hopes to make a rospectahl e showing againdb Wellington,' ilt will have to put in a lot of solid practice and get plenty of combination and condition. The grounds .hero are very fast. T hope the Horowhemia Association sends a team down, 'as the experience the team would gelt would he very useful. I <iiin playing for the United team."
