A FOOTBALL MATTER.
To the Ed i tenSi i\--To the outsider thy methods of the local Rugby Uiiiion appear to bo somewhat complex. On Saturday week, during the progress of the Shanuon-Hiii Mai match, at iMaiiuukau, :i Shannon player was ordered off the field by the referee for tripping, and up to date his case has not- been dealt with )>y the l-nion. This is a dilatory way of doing business, and, besides being unfair both to the player aiml to bis team, does not reflect credit on the powers that be on their idea ol carrying out their duties in the best interests of the /game. In all probability the player would have been let off with a oaution, for a week or two back an offender who Jjad deliberately struck an opponent was suspended for two months, which, in the eyes of this union, is a most exemplary sentence. As the case, was, the Shannon seniors had a somewhat- difficult task to gelt a team together to meet the local fifteen last Saturday, and had to draw so much on their juniors that the latter were unable to fulfil theii own engagement. Tam not in a position to sov whether the holding over of this pnrticular case was .an omission on the part of the officials, but in the future players who have been ordered off the field should have their cases dfvili lvi.fh more r>\--perliitiously
.—Yours, otf.. OLD FOOTBALLER.
