Tho object of the gathering was of a twofold nature: first to commemorate the completion of Mr IC. A. W. Osliorne's second year in Shiii.ii.nion, and secondly to celebrate Mr A. Siines' 27ith birthday. Mr E. J. King presided, and in a neat speech proposed 'Hie health of both gentlemen, which was musically honoured. A jolly time followed. Mr Dougall proved himself an efficient pianist, and added much to the [pleasure ol tho eveninig. Mr Claud Sowman was again a very successful exhibitor at the Wellington Pigeon and Poultry Show, lust week. On this occasion lie .secured .sov<'u first and itwo secern! prizes, out of ten entries, which was very creditable.

Tlit' eniertainmont is to itake place in the Te Horo school, and greiat interest. is biMug taken in the event. A novel fealture in the night's progra.inme will be the introduction o-f a "cotillion in the good old style. The ladies of Haiitere and To Horo, who have charge of the supper department, will d'hubtle.ss quite eclipse Mrs Beeton, as their proficiency in the culinary department and itlio delicacies a'pperto it .are well known. The Hoyals are working hard -to maki the affair a great success, and the whirr of the sewing machine of Into has quite eclipsed the music of >h\w axe. which fact denotes the. iact that the violets and primrosy.s '■-I Hau'iere and Te Horo intend t« be unusually winsome on this occasion. The interest taken in this •rrwit social ovemt is not evidently •oiifined to the fair ones: the \vwker sex are likewise on the qui vive. for as T was strolling through th" "I'lh a few days since T came suddenly upon a young fellow— evidenitIv a new chum— who lvid on a p-iii n (.ancing pumps jnid ;V a.s whist-■ui-Z. and .nt tlvto snnie time, pmcrising on a huge rat.a stujnp tli-t* of various dances.
