Ministerial Humor.
v—----DR KIN I) LAY ON Till'] I'Ori! lii replying bo the toast of Parliament at the Auckland Chamber of Commerce dinner last week, the At-timney-GeiKral, Hon. I)r Kindlav, adopted a humorous vein. He said each of the four cities of Dunediin, Chri.stciihrch, Wellington and Auckland had Itiieir own. special L attires both of situation and people, but ii often seemed that Dunediii and Christchuroli made as if, were one pair connected hy the harness of one nViin line, and Wellington and Auckland .a nether pair connected by the ii ani ess of one main line, anil in this team of four Diiendin and Christchur: h were Ithe whaft-ers. Wellington anil Auckland the loaders. (Hear, hear.) He was very fond of his birthplace, the grand old city of Dunedin— (applause)-- but he recognised that, her days as a leader of the cities km! passed. Iter gai' 1 had steadied down. She and Christell 11 re'll jogged along together in the shafts, doing much by their reliability to lavp the ervinh steady. Their wild oats were all sowiu or. should he not say eaten? A good, reliable, (|iiiet. staid old pair. (Laughter). So much he. knew they could generously concede. (Heir', hear). The two leaders, while they had much in rammou. had also in difference. Each sometimes wanted t'o go a different road ; ■each thought her rights and claims ignored ; both gave the man on the box much concern ; but lie rather thought it was .Auckland tbht was the hardest mare to handle. (Laughter.) Sometimes wh.-.n she got the. b;i!fc in her teeth and kicked over the traces it looked as if s:l[:> would pull the wh'ole d d coach just exactly where she wanted to go. (Hoars of laughter.) Then those two old shifters cot back in the breeching a bit. ;and things entiled doniw: but Aucldaud, notwithstanding occasional outbursts, was really a good'tempered animal—(lautrhter — strong sound, with plenty of go in her, the daisy of the team. (Applause.) Her sti'idfe was free, but her wind was perhaps not quite so oi M d .as that of "Wellington. (Laughter.) Above all. Auckland wns.Jiiidi spirited, awl high spirits boiled at a low temperature.
