The King and Queen of Italy have left Rome by special train,' to visit the see,lie of the earthquake. Seventeen towns and villages have been damaged. Falling houses caused the majority of casualties, the victims being .asleep at the time of the catastrophe. Tlio sho;-k was unduTatory. Parties from the carabiliters sanitary and engineer corps are aotiveIv engaged in recovering bodies from the ruins. Nearly all the streets in Avellino have been wrecked, and much damage has been done at Calitri and Vellata.
A strong shock was also felt at Montreux O'li lake Geneva, and the upper Rhone valley, causing avalanches to come down from the mountain knows as Pent-du-Midi.
