DOMINION HOTEL IN FLAM ICS

Another serious fire occurred at Levin early this morning, and hut for (the prompt action of tho Fire Brigade it might liavo lii.ad most sot'ions results. As it was, tho Dominion private hotel, which is hotter kno'wn, perhaps, as "Cheeseman's Hotel," was .severely damaged, the dining room being gutted, whilo tho kitchen and some of the bedrooms wore practically destroyed. There w*t3 a splendid supply of water available, '•ind tho brigade _ simply drenched the hotel. Tn this way, the flames were soon got under control, and so tho front portion of tho house was saved. But the roof was hurried through, .and a scene of great disorder presents itself to-day. "Everything in 'the dining room is destroyed. Chairs and tables are burned to >a cinder, the mantelpiece is destroyed, and crockery lies scattered about in all directions. Mr CheOvSeman told a " Chronicle" representative that but for the fact they were flwokc at the time they wore, probablv lives would have been los.t. They bad Ito fight their way through the smoke and escape by the window. Mr P. H. Brown said that he heard some one calling for water, <ind on getting out of bed noticed unmistakable signs of a fire.
