The _Levin racecourse at tho present time is in splendid order, and tho caretaker (Mr R. Wooding) has been paying great attention to the different tracks, lawns, paddocks, etc. The course proper has been railed off, so that it will not be cut ii[) before the forthcoming Otaki meeting (next week). Tho going is wry firm for this time of year" and if .there is not too much rain beiore tho meeting it will bo bard to find a better course in tho dominion. The caretaker has made a drain and a number of deep holes, which he had fillecT up with big stones, so as to take any surface water off the course in .the- straight, and this has had tho desired .effect of keeping it dry. The grass has been kept short in the lawn and paddocks, which will be a. boon to tho public when walking about. Inside the course proper has been made another track, which has had a layer of sawdust on, •and tho local trainers are now using this, and find it very good. The caretaker has been very busy getting all arrangements in order, and by the day of the races it will be a credit to him. Tcotane has been causing bis trainer, Fred. Cannon*, a deal of anxiety lately, on account of his eld trouble oi bleeding making its appearance. Tho chestnut was fairly well, but this will hamper his preparation and he will not be at his best nex>b meeting. Carnioiit contemplates turning this horse out after the Otaki meeting. The chestnut gelding in Carmon-t's .stable by Good Spec, is being schooled over the obstacles. Ho will be ■a starter at tho Otaki meetin- and will be ridden by Miller. As noitlifi- horse nor rider are proficient at .tho game, his changes of winning aiv regarded as remote. Sir Frisco is being built up nicely by his mentor, and should do him a good turn during the winter racing. He will be given a start at tho Otaki meeting, as his trainer believes in giving his horses a run m public ito bring them along.
