(Specially Writ-ten for "The Chronicle.")

George Price (the Awapuni trainer) .itill continues to receive congratulations in connection with his success at the late Hawke's Bay meeting. The genial George is certainly entitled to the highest praise for the way he .has brought his charges along. George, it may be remembered, was very painstaking with the -Multiform colt Polymorphous, who was troubled with a severe attack of rheumatism, and only repeated fomentations got him well. Then again George experienced considerable trouble with Boanerges, who is now in the front rank of sprinters. The Pilgrims Progresss-Parera colt developed an inclination for falling, and Price rode the colt himself until lie arrived at a. solution of that peculiarity. Xyland's success is regarded in some quarters as the most valuable demonstration of Price's abilities, as the Finland gelding was credited with a superlative temper. The stable will be represented at the Auckland meeting next month by Aorangi. Xyland and Gloss. While writing of Polymorphous, Boanerges and Xyland, it may not be generally known that A. .J. Shearsbv, Levin's esteemed trainer, was educating the trio for some- considerable time, but tliev were transferred from his stable and placed under Price's guidance at Awapuni. Prior to the team leaving this district they contributed very little (if anything at all) ton\nrds Shearsby's stable account, but it was not through lack of attention on tille trainer's part, as he had the horses in good condition while under hi* care. Xo doubt had Shenrsby r•>tained "JJighden's" team, he w.nhi probably have been rewarded wiuh the number of successes that have attended Price's efforts, as Shearsbv proved himself a most painstaking and conscientious trainer while the trio were under his guidance. Aimwell, who was purchased by a Wuirarapa sportsman some few weeks ago, appropriated the Autumn Handicap at the Marl boron gib meeting last week. The daughter of SoultGladys May proved a great disappointment when representing the colours,of the Auckland sportsman, Mr IT W. Hand ley. Generally a change of ownership means a change of luck. Lady Medallist, St. Felix, and Penza were dual winners at the Marlborough meeting. fu the Cup, Lady Medallist was only given Bstt 91b, and. she won in a canter. "Willi 121b more on her back next day Prosser's mare won in even easier fashion, which seems to emphasise the fact that the Cup weight was much too light. The public instantly realised that the mare Was entitled to more weight, and fairly scrambled to get on to the good thing. Jenkins' mount was an odds on chance each day. Mr T?. A. McDonald's pair, since returning from 'the Hawke's Bay meeting, are having an easy time, but tliev should soon be asked to do something in the way of a gallop in view of coming events. Waipaku is reported to tliave improved considerably during the past few weeks, and her owner anticipates that the Conqueror mare will play a prominent part in the decision of the Connolly Handicap at the WafTganui meeting. The Levin-owned gelding, Waione. has been awarded 10st olb in the Wanganui Steeplechase. Maori King is looked upon by many sportsmen as likely to have a say in the settlement ol the Connolly Handicap at Wanganui. Tauira and Waione appear among the list of horses engaged in the Century Hurdles at- Wanganui with l()st 131b and lOst Dlb respectively. Excellent progress continues to b<> made with the erection of buildings and enclosures on the OtalnMaori Club's new property. The horse Wooloomooloo, who has been entered in the steeplechase events at Wanganui, arrived at Hastings from Australia a few days ago. The course for the Liverpool Grand National is a very .severe one. In this year's race, out of twenty-fiv:' starters, only five finished. Ten fell at the first three fences, and only nine completed the first round. Overtime is training on satisfactorily, and ro]X>rts state that the Borough Handicap at Wanganui is her mission. Hilarian will shortly join the ranks of the hurdle brigade. Speeiosa is again on the track at Marton, with a view to the forthcoming steeplechase season. Albert Millar, who served his apprenticeship with Mr Alf. Shenrsby, has been engaged, by Mr Prosser to school Playmate over big country, in view of the coming steeplechases. This is a splendid opening for a young rider, as the Porirua stable generally shelters some fairly good jumpers.
