KING v . At Midnight on Friday. (Received This Dav, 1.2 p.m.) LONDON, This Day. The King died at midnight. Edward VIL was born at liuckino--hani Palace, November 18iT, created Prince of Wales and Kari of Chester ou December 4th, Lts-11 ; baptised at St. George's Chapel' Windsor Castle, January zytli, 1812.' ICdncated at Christ Church, Oxford'. (D.C.L. 1808), and at Trinity College, Cambridge (LL.D.), and' Edinburgh University *1,L.D.); also LL.D Dublin (18(58), and" Calcutta (1871). Admitted to the Middle Temple, called to the bar and to the benr'h of that Society (October 31st, 18(il). He married (March lOtli, 18M) H.IMI the Princess Alexandra Caroline Mary Charlotte Louisa Julia. (Queen Alexandra), eldest daughter r.f Christian FX., King of Denmark, and .sister of the ex-Em press of Russia and the the King of Greece, who was born at Copenhagen December ls>t, 18-14. On her marriage the House of Commons voted her an animal allowance of £10,000, and C 30.000 inutile even 1 of her surviving the King. The King and Queen celebrated their silver wedding, 1888. There have been six children horn of the marriage—the Duke of Clarence and Prince Alexander, who have both died, the i/uke of Cornwall and York, now Prince of ales, who is the heir-apparent to the throne, Princess Louise, Duchess of Fife (who was given, the title of Princess ft oval in 1905), Princess Victoria, and Princess (now Queen) Maud, married in 1890 to Prince Ivarl of Denmark (now King of Norway). A young man named Sipido shot at His Majesty as lie was leaving the Nord Station at Brussels (April 4th, 1900), en route for Denmark. Fortunately the bullet missed the King. On tho deiath of H.M. Queen Victoria (January 22nd, 1901), Plis Majesty ascended the throne as King Edward VII., took the oath (23rd), and was proclaimed with the usual ceremonies (24th). The Coronation Service was fixed for Juno 26th, 1902, but on Tuesday, June 24t'h, it was announced that the King was suffering from perityphlitis, and an operation was immediately performed. On his recovery the Coronation Service took place on August 9th in Westminster Abbey. A ftoyal Progress through London on October 25th was followed by a Thanksgiving Service at St. Paulon the 28th.
