At the last meeting of the Stratford County Council a letter was received from tlie Eltluwn County Council asking it to declare foxglove a noxious weed. Later on a discussion ensued on a proposal to declare pennyroyal a. noxious weed. Councillor Thomson, .said if this went on farmers would not he able to Wve on their sections. Tlie chairman said lie agreed with the previous .speaker. He did not know of the seriousness of the pliant, except that experts said it prejudicially affected the natural increase. H» did not like being a party to ask anyone to do what was not possible, and ho was afraid it w,ns impossible to get rid of the weed. Tf it was .something a man could do but would not, it was quite right to dro pon him, but ho was afraid if this was passed a man would he harassed by the inspectors. Of course, tliere was a danger of it spreading, but he was told it died out in five or six years. He was •also told that sheep would not eat it unless starving. Councillor Waters said lie Ikul personal, evperience of its spreading powers. He had a. patch a yard square on his ground two years ayo. which he could have' eradicated in ten minutes. He neglected it, and tin's year it cost him n considerable sum to clean it. Councillor Astburv swl it was very had in parts of the Auckland; district. Tt tainted the milk.
