Proposed New Education District.

♦- — — Wi'J II I'Alj-M EKSTON AS Till'] CEXTM E. "When the Council of the Vulmerston North Chamber of Commerce met on Mouthy night last, the .Mayor (.Mr J.' A. Nash) again brought up his scheme for making a new district between the Kangitikei district between the Kangitikei and Otiiki rivers with l'alnierston as tiie headquarters. He thought a meeting should be called at a nearly date. "If wo were to take the number of .schools in t-liis end of the district," he said, "we would find that they would be far in excess of the other end. Wanganui was all very well as the head of tlio educational district between llangitikei and Taranaki, but the position of Talmerston warranted it being made the head of another district. T don't want it to be thought that I am finding any lault with our representation on tho Board. j\lr Bennett's work is admirable, out we should have a larger number of representatives round this district." In conclusion .Mr Nash said he did not like always to be beating Palmerston's drum, but he though the time had come for a change in the direction indicated. lie moved: "That the School Committees in town be requested to send three delegates to a meeting to be held by the Chamber to discuss the matter on a date to be fixed."

Mr G. H. Bennett seconded the resolution, which was carried. Ho thought the time had arrived when the matter should lie thrashed out. Hβ was quite in accord with some of the views expressed by Mr Xash, and would like to see Palmerston the headquarters of a district, but he differed in some details as to the boundaries.

Mr Gardner thought the first question that would bo asked by the Government would be: Was there any maladministration? Had Pal-mei'-ston anv special grievance or injustice? Tt would be hard to convince the Government of any necessity for >a eh an go if there was no grievance. Mr >?ash said he didn't want the matter discussed till the special meeting, ami the discussion was accordingly deferred.
