LONDON WOOL SALES

DALGETY AND CO.'S REPORT

Regarding tlio wool, sales, which opened at London on tlie Bth March, Dalgety and Co. repor£ that the attendance of buyers «:as largo and representative, incliMing several from tlio United States of America, but the Latter seem to»-be at ipresent more spectators than"iuyers. The Home trade, however 4 'r,U>as been extremely busy for sometime, and on the Continent also users have been well employed, so that the general expectation wa stliat opening prices would not show much change from January closing rates.

Catalogues on the opening day contained a fair selection, although the buk of the offerings was composed of crossbreds, and the result of tho sale showed the following position of prices as compared with closing rates of last series:—Merinos, par to 5 per cent, higher; fine crossbreds, unchanged.; medium and coarse crossbreds, par to 5 per cent, lower. Subsequent sales have confirmed these quotations, and with the exception of so mo heavy and earthy parcels of grease the tendency for Merinos has be'en rather upward. Rectification of yield rather than any •hange in the market is accountable for wasty lots sometimes selling below last .salt's' extreme rates. Tn crossbreds there is hardly any change in values except for good blight lots of medium and coarse quality, which were .effected last sales by American competition, and now owing to loss of that support are frequently id to Id lower. During tho last day or two, however, purchases for the States have been more numerous. At auction on 3rd inst 5331 bales of sheepskins were offered and practically all sold. •As compared with rates current at previous sales (20th January) prices for combing skins, both merino and crossbred, were at par to Jd per lb higher, and clothing skins $d per lb lower.
