A matter of importance to conntry school teachors who may bo cletr'rred from applying for vacant positions in it'lle t<i\v;:i owing to the salary offered being less than they aire in' receipt of in the position they hold was mentioned at the meeting of the East Christobureli. School Committee by the headmaster (Mr S. C. Gu-'i;). remarked _ that if >a coivnsy teacher was receiving, say, £l! 20 per aiiiniini, and <a vacancy occurred in 11 town school, the salary atached to which was £90, the country teacher, if successful in obtaining the' appniiitnient, would receive the salary attac'lied to the grade in which lie or she is, and would not be reduced to the amount of salary offered in eoiiwieetion with the vacant position". This is one of tho provisions of the latest scale of salaries lor public .school teacheis. The East. Christchuroh School Committee, the members of which are believers in tho appointment of country teachers to vacancies in the town, ' decided to reootmneind two country teachers to vacancies iiv the schools under their control.
