[pen I'UESS association.] WELLINGTON, April 1(>. lir the case of Henry Stephens Cobnrn, publisher of "New Zealand Truth," convicted of having distributed obscene printed matter for public sale," medical .affidavits submitted to the Supreme Court today, showed accused to be suffering l'rotn chronic rheumatism and ennrasthenia. The doctors certified that confinement in gaol would be prejudicial to Coburn's health. Mr Justice Chapman said be would not be doing bis duty if he failed to sentence accused to a term of imprisonment,. Taking into consideration the medical affidavits, and evidence ns to character, the Judge thought the ease could be met by a fine of £AO, and a sentence of four months 'imprisonment, without hard lnboiir, from the time of conviction.
