ACTION OK THE COUNTY COUNCIL. Tho Mayor of Levin (Mr B. R. Gardener) and Cr. France waited on the Horowhenua County Council on Saturday morning fls a deputation from the Borough Council in connection with the sand drifts on the llokio Heach. The Mayor said that certain waste land on the beach should he acquired from the natives. It Wilis now lying idle and was of no use whatever. To purchase , 1000 acres would ho a mere bagatelle. The hind ecu Id planted with lupins, and possibly be turned into a valuable property. He Imped the Council would form a joint, committee with the! Borough Council and deal with the matter. Cr. France briefly addressed tho Council, in support of the Mayor's observations. Cr. Vdiin thought the idea of forming a joint committee- a very good one. The chairman said that tho way in which the sa-nd drifts wero coming inlands was a serious matter for the district. Cr. MV-Leavi'v remarked that all |b,i councillor l ; were interested in Mie oucstinn, and hoped something would soon be done. He moved ■ hat 'fi committee consisting of all .the members of Hie. Council meet Hie nicnib'r.s of the Levin Borou'di fVomcil at a dat" to be fixed by tho rVuutv Council, to go into the siil>i"ct of the sand drifts. Cr. Veii.n seconded, and the motion w!i?{ agreed to.
