Satisfactory acceptances have been received for the first day's racing in connection with the Mauawaiii meeting, to bo held on Wednesday and Thursday. The following Levin horses claim engagements: Ascalon, Plantation, Torpoint. Herinia, Royal Maid, Teotane- and Passive. Ttotane will be ridden by Cairns in the- Taikorea Welter Handicap. Torpoint, who was bought by F. Carmont at Palmerston North in •I a unary last, will make his first appearance in public in the fharere Hack Welter, in which event the son of Torpedo and Arber is weighted at Bst. He was sold at auction on behalf of Mr G. P. Donnelly. Teotano, who has not raced since the Foxton meeting, will be given a chance of distinguishing himself in the. Open 'Welter. The Daunt gelding will have Sst. 101b. to carry, and providing he is not troubled with his old complaint, Carmont should receive a reward for his perseverance. The stable presided over by All'. Shearsby will be represented by Royal -Maid, Plantation niiul Passive. Reports state that the. trio have bee'i acquitting themselves creditably on the training track, and keen judges anticipate that " All'." will return to Levin with y.oine coin a.s the result of his team's efforts. R. A. McDonald's stable will be represented by Ascalon and Hermia. The former, it will be remembered, was a dual winner at Fc.ilding, ami the manner in which the Conqueror gelding disposed of the opposition in each of his essays, gave me the impression that he will pay his way in more pretentious company. Hermia distinguished herself by downI tin? i first rnt.f lot in the Mangaone Stakes, and the Birkeiihead fillv was commented on by many sportsmen as looking exceptionally well, which speaks volumes for her trainer-owner's energy. Thetis, who wrenched her fetlock after the A.shhurst meeting, and has in ('iiii''.'(|iii'nce be (Mi having .in easy time siiicr-, has been put in commission again by F. Oarniont, and will be s'.'iven a run shortly. Mendi*/ has a considerable number of iulniirers for the Lnnijhurii Handicap at Awapiini on "Wednesday.
