KKPORT AND UALAXCK-SHEET

The report submitted by the secretary, Mr Cyril L. Wilson, was as follows:—

"In presenting this, the 3rd annual report and balance-sheet of the llorowheiiua Hockey Association, it is with regret thnt I have to report that the Association is not fls strong financially as it has been in the la«t two years, being, in fact, in the position of starting the coming season with a deficiency of £'l (is. This position is due largely to the expenses ill connectif*ii with sending the ladies' team to tbe annual ladies' hockey tournament, but 1 think tho money was well spent, <is the experience gained by the members of the team will be of great benefit to all the ladies' clubs, besides stimulating ;i great amount of interest in ladies' hockey.

''We have now nine chibs affiliated to the, Association, as .against eight last year, and there is a proliability of the number being increased to eleven for the coming ':eji.si,-ll

" The ladies' championship was vvoii by the previous year's winners, the Oliau Club, who bold the fine banner presented by Mr Hymn Brown, to whom the thanks of the Association are due for bis generous gift. The Otaki ladies runners up. Tbe men's championship, after a splendid series of matches, was won by the Levin Club, who hold tho Glackin challenge cup for the year. The thanks of the Association are also due to Mr 1 ,, . J. Glackin for his gift of a fine silver cup. Rahui had the honour of being runners-up.

" Wu played a good number of representative matches; ouo each •igaiiist Wellington, and Manawatu. Although we were defeated in each one by narrow majorities, the experience and practice gained in such matches will prove of great benefit to the younger members of our representative teams. Several other representative matches were negotiated for but liiil'ortunatelv fell through.

" The Management, Committee met five times during the year, and transacted a good volume of business, and from a knowledge of the amount of correspondence dealt ivith, and a glance at the balancesheet, it will be seen that the volnin;,, of business increase;; year by year, and fully justifies the existence of the Association.

" The Association has a full year ahead of it, the chief item o_f interest being the visit to N'ew Zealand of the English touring team in 1911, •in(l I think that no effort should be spared to have a match pla.vt'd with n team from our Association, as we have been given the option by the New Zealand Association to do so. Such a match being the first of its kind, must be of lasting benefit to hockey and hockey, "players alike throughout the district. " fn conclusion, ladies and gentlemen, it is with much regret that I have to tender my resignation ms secretary, as my business duties will prevent my .acceptance of tho position for ai'iother term, and T wish the Horowhenua Hockey Association every success for the future." MAXAKAU MEN'S CLUB.
