FARMERS' HEAVY LOSSES

AUCKLAND, April 1

The latest advices from Paeroa show that the floods were far-reach-ing. On "Wednesday -night the wind blew a hurricane from the east. Tho river rose to such -an extent that a large part of the residential portion of the district was submerged, and people were flooded out. One four-roomed house was washed away, and outhouses, trees, and almost anything moveable, were washing about. ivead sheep and cattle marked the course of the river, and the farmers have been heavv losers. The tunnel on the Paerca-Wailii railway is blocked with logs and rocks, and communication beyond Paeroa is completely blocked.
