V.C. Hero's Wedding.

THE GORDON HIGHLANDERS .SUPPORT GALLANT COLONEL

AT THE ALTAR

The Church of St. Margaret's, Westminster, was filled with heroes a brief time since, there being a great master of Gordon Highlanders for the wedding ot : Lieut.Colonel W. E. Gordon, . .C, to Miss Daisy Blair, daughter of the late Mr James Blair, of Clunie, AustraThe wedding was to have taken place on December 16, but had to be postponed on account of the sudden illness of the bride, and for that reason the present ceremony was as quiet as p&ssible. It was in July, 1900, that the whole of England stood amazed at the gallantry of Colonel (then Captain) Gordon, for 'it was during the action at Leehoehoek. near krugersdorp, that he won the coveted Victoria Cross. One of the British guns had been left within a fow yards of the enemy mid Captain Gordon, seeing the danger of the gun being taken by the Uoers and turned upon our own men, called for volunteers to save it. The gnlhnt -Gordons responded like one man to the call, but the fire was so deadly, and. the aim so accurate at such short range that Captain Gordon would not expose his men to what seemed almost certain death, so he sallied forth himself, and with great coolness fastened a drag rope to the gun. Then, beckoning his. men, they tried to drag it into safety; but the fire was too hot, man after man fell, until at last the captain ordered Ins men to retire to shelter -behind a kopje. It was not until the last wounded man was carried to shelter that Captain Gordon retired himself. Among the invite dguests were several N.C.O.'s, and men who went through the awful experience at. Leehoehoek in 1900, fine athletic bronzed figures, who made a big show .in-the .fashionable clmreh.
