The Unionist Free-trade Club, of which the 'Earl of Cromer is president, has been wound up, owing to differences of opinion as to the relative importance of Free-trade and other political issues. Lord James of Hereford, Sir Frederick Pollock (the well-known jurist ?\)d advocate of Imperial organisation), and other members have joined the Free-trade Union, which has hitherto been predominantly Liberal. The Union's executive has promised to co-operate with representative Unionist Free-traders.
Lord Beauchainp (the treasurer) states that the Union has received £10,000 in addition to the £GOOO collected by the Daily Chronicle, for the purpose- of an independent Freetrade campaign before the election..
Sii' Edward Grey (Foreign Secretary), addressing a Free-trade demonstration in London, deelanvl that Tariff Reform would make British politics not only profligate, but corrupt, and would introduce the seeds of disunion and disruption of the Empire.
