» ' DOINGS IN SHANNON. (Reported by "Tho Chronicle's" liesident Representative). RIFLE SHOOTING. A shoot for the Shannon Rifle Club's silver cup took place on Saturday. The cup, of which Rifleman E. Sutton is the present holder, has to be won twice in succession, or three times at intervals to give the winner the right ol possession. Oleson, T, Lind, H. ICnowles, and W. H. Gunniing left by tho mail train to-day, to play the Palmerstou Bowling Club's team for the "Dixon Cup." GOOD TEMPLARY. On Monday night, at the usual fortnightly meeting of the Hope of Shannon Lodge of tho T.0.G.T., D.D. Bro. J. Petterson performed the pleasing duty of presenting the Rev. J. A. Mackenzie with a handsome crocodile pocket wallet, as a mark of esteem, from the members. Mr Mackenzie, who has been chaplain to the lodge for some considerable time, is shortly leaving on a. trip to the Old Country. A SACRED CONCERT. On Sunday night a sacred concert was held in the Druids' Hall, in aid of Mother Mary Aubert's Home, it wms \\vl] attended, and adi exoeptionally good programme was "»rovided. Miss Wallace (of Wellington), who has a very sweet voice, sang "Absent" and' "Abide With Me." .. Miss M'Mahon (of Wellington) sang "Hush Little One" and 'My Dearest Heart." Both items were greatly appreciated. Miss Cooper (of Aranioho) gave a splendid interpretation of "The Star of Bethelehem." Mr F. May (our local favourite) was fine in "Anchored," and Mr F. Denton sang "Nazareth," and recited, in his inimitable manner, "The Old Clock on the Stairs." A quartette, consisting of Messrs M'Mahon, Cooper, Wallace, and Mr Denton also sang. Mrs DaltCiii proved herself an efficient accompanist. SHANNON BEAUTY SHOW. The bazaar closed on Monday night, with a concert and dance. A feature which played a prominent part in the evening's entertainment was a beauty show. The conditions were that the gentlemen were to vote for any one young ladv between sixteen and twenty-one years of age, the prize being a handsome gold brooch kindly donated by Air Golder, of Fox ton. The chosen young lady was Miss Laura Curran, who won by a majority of sixteen. During the evening, Messrs Hurley and J. Cnrran danced an Irish jig. The little sisters Tremewan again repeated the Spanish dance which met with such favour during the bazaar. Songs were sung by Misses Wallace, Cooper, M'Mahon, Messrs May, Prosser and Wilton. Dancing was kept going until the early hours of Tuesday morning. The bazaar has proved a great financial success, and the committee expect to be able to hand over to Mother Aubert at least cm
