MAORI VILLAGE BURIED.

« LANDSLIDE AT WAIHI. EXCITING SCENES. NATIVES PAXIC-STRTCKEN. [PKR PREBB ASSOCIATION. - ] AUCKLAND, This Day. Further particulars of the landslide at Waihi show that Wi Tamawhana, among others, was making a wild rush for safer ground, when a big boulder struck him and knocked him down. He recovered himself, and renewed his flight, but the landslip overtook him in a few seconds, and he was overwhelmed. The last that was seen of him was his legs dangiling out of the slushy mud. A young woman named -xako just managed to get clear of the path of the slide. She sank senseless .to the ground aiul was removed to safety. As the mass pitched into the lake a tidal wave rose some ten feet and swept to the opposite shore, where some children were playing. They were swept off their feet, and were rescued by some adults with some difficulty. All the boats and canoes on the hike were washed away. The natives have all left the village, and the rescued are at Pakawa. An earlier message stated that an alarming landslide occurred at the native settlement of Waihi, a mile westward of Tokaanu, m< the shores of Lake Taupo, yesterday morning, when the hillside behind the village began to bodily slip away, and it then forced its way to the lake, carrying whares, houses, and everything in its track.]
