A Colonial Impression of England.
* Mr TT. S. Tn it ill. a luruicr \\ •• f 1 known resident of New Zealand. who is now in England. uh. r ,.. h<. has started business as n lobaccinist in St. Helens (F.ancasbire). says that any New Zealander, who prefers to live in England after our Njew Zealand cliuiare. must lie made (if peculiar stufl'. He has now h.id two English winters, and one siiinmor. ■ He says if the last- siinini.-r is any criterinn, he woul-l sooner have a New Zt-ibnid winter. l!ut he throws out the well-worn reui.irk that a man can get u>r! In -mivtliing. He is of opinion that (he best place to live in is where one can get the best living the most easily, and in that particular tic Old Country seems to please him. Ho considers that the prettiest part of England is that about Funics, and the scenery from Cain ford bi Borrow is lovelv. He was ;ilso delighted with the ancient town of Coventry. "f think." he says. "that it is all object, leson to aiuy Colonial to see how the workers live, or rather exist. No wonder our late Premier used to call Xew Zealand 'God's own country'.'' I should think' anyone who has se-.'ii the conditions under which some of the poorer people live here, would call it the same could they see the same class in the Dominion. I bad a chamee in my travels of seeing this sort of thing, and would advise iiuy working man who is thinking of leaving New Zealand to think again. Of course there is far more 'life' in England than there is in the Dominimu. and everyone who can afford to do so, should visit the Old Country —a three mouths' trip here is an education in itself, and I have never regretted having come, but I shall always long to get another view of dear little Xow Zealaind. ,,
