At the inquest on Mr Bertram Armytage, who was a member of Shaekleton's Antarctic expedition, the coroner perused a letter loft by the deceased addressed to the secretary of the Melljourne Club. It reform! to his disappointment in. not receiving an Appointment at the War Office, which he was 'anxious to secure. The rest of the letter referred to the disposal of his effects. It showed that he contemplated suicide. The coroner remarked that Mr Armytage was in the prime of life, and had everything ho could desire—youth, wealth, health. hut there was just one thing wanted which he could not get, and it drove him to self-murder. A verdict of suicide, there being nothing to show his state of i dud at the time, was returned.
