ENTERTAINMENTS.

R OVAL BEfifiES-O'-TH'-BARN BAND. Considerable interest is being evinced throughout tho. distwct at. tlie return of tlie famous Royal Bosses-'-th'-Barii Band, ami universal satisfaction wealed with the prospects of a concert in Levin on Monday, March 21. The Besses-o'-th'-Barn returns to Australasia with an hereditary reputation as one of tlie finest—if not the best—brass bands extant. "When it is remembered that a band consisting of 33 performers .aml a conductor can. with only six different brass instruments and drums, produce musical effect in gradation and colouring from tlio softest pianissimo up to tlie crash of fortissimo, including the simple harmonies of a popular hymn ;.nd the weird grandeur of Wagner's musical mythology, it can lie readily understood that such results would give the performers world-wide reputation. Every porformer in the Band is, and' must be, n consummate artist to arrive at such a standard of musical perfection, from the artist drummer to the solo cornet. Tt is said to be a performance in -which the lip, ioHgim and fingers arc equal in facility and delicacy of rendition to the fingers only of tho great artists of the organ, piano, and violin. There is no hitch, no hesitation, not the smallest indication of executive difficulty by ;iny member of the Band, oven in the most florid rush of instrumentation ; not the faintest effort or unnecessary gesticulation on the part of the conductor (Mr Alexnader Owen). There is. no undue prominence of any instrument, an absolute balance is preserved producing a magnificent combination with harmonious results.

Full particulars respecting prices, opening of plans, booking of .seats by posts, and location will be "announced later.

Mr A. W. Batiste, principal tourng manager, will arrive on Monday n<l _ will be pleased to meet those uusicallv interested.
