The three ‘competitors who 1 made the highest scores, in the. respective teams were Corporal Hepplestone, England; Captain Armstrong, Ireland; and Sergt. Plbnderleith, Scotland. It was between these three, therefore, that the; competition for the Irish International Challenge Cup took, place. At the 500 yards the Scotchman 24, and the Irishman 22, making their scores 44 and 45 respectively. The English champion seemed altogether abroad, and only scored 8, thus putting him self entirely out of the - match. The interest was very great when the competitors took up their position at the 600 yards target, there being only one point between Scotland and Ireland. The Englishman again fired extremely bad, making only 8, his total being 37. Sergeant Plenderleith scored 10, making his total up to 54, while Captain Armstrong increased his previous lead, making 14 points, which, with his previous score, made 59. Ireland thus won by 5 points. The Prince of Wales and Prince Teck arrived just before the competition at 400 yards began, and remained until its conclusion. The winner was then presented to his-royal higness, who warmly congratulated him upon his success, and presented him with the bronze medal which usually accompanies the cup.
