The favorite steamer Star of the South, Captain William Bendall, left Napier on Sunday, 27th September, at 4 p.m.; took shelter under the black reef of-the Mahia Peninsula, at midnight during a heavy N.E. gale, which continued untii 11 a.m. on Monday, when she proceeded ou the voyage, a fresh breeze still blowing. At 6 p.m. on Wednesday anchored at Port Charles during a furious gale from S.W. Left again at 6 a.m. on Thursday, Ist Oct., and arrived at the Tamaki at 1 p.m. .As usual, she discharged her. cargo of cattle.aad sheep at the landing in excellent condition, notwithstanding the rough weather she experienced. ■ Arrived alongside Queen-st. Wharf at 8 o’clock on the night of the Ist Oct. Next day took in a small cargo, and steamed for Napier at 10, p.m. on Friday, Oct. 2. Had strong W.S.W. winds to the Last Cape, which was rounded at 11 p.m.. on the 3rd, only 25 hours from Auckland. Shorty-after- roundiug the Cape the wind came from the southward, and blew a gale witli very violent squalls, attended with hail. 'At 7 a.m. on Sunday, the 4th, anchored at Ananra, and found the. cutter Agnes, lying there, waiting to take in cargo .for Auckland. The Star of the South having, drove from her anchorage iu a heavy squall shortly after coming-to at Anaura, was compelled to get up steam and proceed to Tologa Bay, where she arrived at 1 p.m. the same day, after about five hours hard steaming against the gale. Found good shelter had holding ground at Tologa Bay, and ‘ lay there until 6 a.m. on Monday, sth Oct., when, the gale -having -taken off a little, she proceeded on the voyage, and arrived in Ahuriri roadstead at midnight on Monday, entering the Iron Pot early on Tuesday morning.. A schooner, supposed to be the Success, running to the northward under bare poles, was seen passing Anaura as the Star was going in there. The Star of the South again took' her ‘ departure for Auckland on Thursday night, with a cargo of sheep. The s.s. Beautiful Star, Capt. Chrisp, left Port Chalmers at 5 p.m. on Tuesday last, October 6. Had.«tr6ng;.N .E. winds far-as Lyttelton, where she arrived at 8 p.m.' on-Wednesday. Cleared Lyttelton Heads at 6 a.m. on Friday,'with light S.W. breeze. Passed Cape Palliser at 2 a.m. on Saturday, Castle Point at 10.30 a.ra., and Cape Turnagain at 2.20 p.m., with heavy westerly gale had terrific squalls. Off Bare Island at 8 p.m. eased the engines to dead slow. Off Cape KidnapSrs at midnight stopped the, engines till daylight. .owing furiously : all night, with heavy rain Squalls. At daylight yesterday morning steamed up tothe anchorage, into the Iron Pot. . The Star brings a large cargo for this pos and also-for, Auckland, and about 27 passengers for that port. Since this steamer last visited Napier considerable improvements have been made in ner passenger accommodation, and we have no doubt the Beautiful Star,. as iniays gone by, will soon take up her position as a favorite regular trader tb-and from this port. ; The s.s. The Panama ; Company’s s.s. Phoebe, hence, arrived at Auckland on the 2nd October. It appears -that she sustained 1 an accident on the passage, of which the following account appears in the Evening News:—The spectators on the Queen-street Wharf were ; hot a little surprised thisrmorning on seeing the Phoebe, which was expected to-day, coming slowly hp the harbor under sail, and it was of-course concluded that-some accident had happened to her machinery. On boarding, we found that when the Phoebe was rounding Cape Colville, about midnight last night, the crank shaft of the engine broke off a little inside the after crank, the effect of which being, of course, that the machinery was powerless. The weather at the time was quite calm, and the cause of the accident is not known, but no blame is attached to the engineers of the vessel. . The Phoebe was promptly put under sail, and the wind being moderately fair, she reached the North Head about 8 o’clock this morning,- and about half-an-hour afterwards anchored off the end of Queenstreet Wiiarf. It has yet to be decided whether the repairs of the Phoebe will be executed here, or whether she will be sent on to Sydney. It is most fortunate that at the time of the accident, the weather was so fine; for even supposing no serious results followed, the arrival of the Phoebe in port might have been greatly protracted, with much inconvenience to the passengers.

Stuckey, formerly of the Meteor, to load with cattle for this port. We understand that the schooner Black Hawk was disposed of yesterday for the sum of £750. . .
Considerable anxietjr is felt with regard to the ship Excelsior, Captain Runciraan, which left London on the 16th of May for -.this port, and which is consequently 140 days oat. The ship Siam. Captain Ashby, out 90 days from London, is now looked for. .
