' It may be sbiine of our early vows iiOr-tlie tomb'of early years;; ■ . But, it; seems like a far-off isle to. us. In the stormy seas of years. - O*vvildand;darkare the waves that part > ' i .Our steps from its greenness now, " ' ' And, we miss the joy of many- a heart, v ' And the light of.manyabrow; For deep o’er mahya stately bark ' Have the .’whelming billows rolled, steered with us from that early mark—- \ ‘ V» we are growing old i ‘ Qld in tie dimness and the dust • -Of onr daily toils and cares; .• Old in the'wrecks of love’and trust, - ; : _ Which ,our burdened memory hears. ®*oJi ferm may wear to the passing gaze • The bloom of life’s freshness yet, •drid heams may brighten our latter days _ Which the morning never.met; \ But. O, the changes we have seen In the far and winding way— •' The graves in ohr : path that have grown green, 1 . And the locks that, have grown gray 1 ' stilton our way may spare ; ..The.sable or the gold, But their snows on brighter hair—- " „ And, mends, we are growing old ! • We have gained the world's cold wisdom now—- . ■ We have learnt to pause.andfear—loving founts whose flow t. Was a joy of heart to hear? . We have won the wealth of many a clime, v ' And the lore of many a page • But where is the hope that saw 1 in time But its boundless heritage? ‘ ■' Will flfcome. again when the violet wakes, , _And the woods their youth renew ? ’ Wehave stood in the light of sunny brakes. • • - f Where the bloom was deep and blue; .And our souls might joy in the spring-time then, v _ But the joy was faint and cold, , lor ihne’er could give us the youth again - Of hearts that are glowing old!
