Rifle Match. —A rifle match, be tween eight Petane settlers and eight ot the Napier Rifle Club took place at the range of the Petane Rifle Club on Thursday last, 17th September, resulting in th© defeat, for the first time, of the Napier men, by 25 points. The ranges were 300, 400, 500 ,yards —s shots at each range. A moderate S.E. wind prevailed throughout the day; and the firing, on the whole, was very creditable—the Petane representatives averaging 35, and Napier points each. The firing .at an end, the two parties partook of a* dinner, served in fine style by Mr Tillers, at the expense of the losing party, after which the Napier men returned to town by-boat, having spent a very agreeable day. We understand that a return match is likely soon to come off—firing to take place at the range of the Napier Rifle Club. We subjoin the scores of the match on Thursday last:—
