Men of genius are often eclipsed in society by men who talk gay nothings.
Franklyn. —Mr Swan, of Shortlnnd, has been returned to represent the above district in the House of Representatives. Haueob and Quarantine Regulations roe New Zealand. —In the New Zealand Gazette of the 25th June is published an order in Council containing harbor and ijharantine regulations for the ports in New Zealand. These regulations are to come in force on the Ist September, and all exististing harbor and quarantine regulations are, after that date, to be cancelled and annulled.
Sad Accident. —The Evening News, July 15, reports the following painful case : —A man named Waller was brought up from Wangapoa to-day, having met with a serious accident at Craig’s Whangapoa Saw Mills, by which one of his eyes was knocked out, and his nose broken, and other injuries sustained. ,On arrival in Auckland, the sufferer was removed to the hospital. The injuries are not likely to bo dangerous to life.
Death by Deowning. —The New Zealand Herald, July 14, reports the following occurrence! as having taken placo at L'apu Creek (Hastings):—“Our readers will bo grieved to learn that Mr W. M. Wilson, Solicitor, of this city, has. met with his death in a most melancholy manner. By the Halcyon which arrived last evening, we learn that the unfortunate <»entlemen had been at Tapu on business for a few days; and on Sunday evening last he had gone out from his place of resideuce, and was next discovered by a digger in a creek, lying in the water. He was removed as soon as possible to the nearest houso where restoratives were administered and applied, but without success.” The funeral of the deceased gentleman took place on the 16th iust.
