The Colonial Government p.s. Sturt, Capt. Fairchild, arrived in port on Monday last, from Auckland .via Taurauga and Whakatane. Owing to heavy, southerly wind prevailing on Monday, the Sturt did not resume her voyage to Wellington until Tuesday m or ning. The cutter Nautilus, Jones, master, from Auckland via the Thames gold-fields, Mercury Bay, Tologa Bay, and Mahia, arrived in port on Thurday last, bringing a cargo of timber for Mr Bobert Holt.
The cutter Agnes, Carbiss, master, arrived in port on Thursday last, having left Poverty Bay on Wednesday, evening. She brought a cargo of grass seed, sheepskins, horses, &c„ and 4 passengers. " : . ■ ; •
The schooner Annie, Hamilton, master, arrived In poit on Friday last, havingleft Porangahau on Wednesday. She'brings down 60 telegraph poles for the General Government.
The s.s. Storm Bird, Capt. Doile, with the English Mail via, Suez, arrived, in;port at 9 o’clock this morning, She left’Wellington at noon on Saturday last, but on rounding the beads found a heavy E.N:E. gale blowing; put back, and,came to an anchor lnWorser’s Bny.Gotunder weigh again at 4 o’clock on Sunday ih'orningrand proceeded on her. voyage: Experienced .light NJB, wind and heavy swell up the-coast, and . arrived in port as above. ! The a.ff. Ahuriri, Captain Flowerday, steamed for ( Taurauga and Auckland on Tuesday last, with lit head of cattle for Taurauga, and 203 sheep and 5 passengers for Auckland. The schooner Hero, Campbell, master, with a full general cargo for Wairoa, left this port on Wednesday last. : The s.s. Ahuriri, Capt. Flowerday, may- be expected to arrive here this day from Auckland, and will steam, for Wellington to-morrow (Tuesday). - The s.s. Wellington is due here from Southern Ports on Thursday next, 28th inst., and will steam fojt Auckland on the following day. Becently, Captain A. Palmer, formerly of the unfortunate steamer Cleopatra, wa3, on the information of the Customs authorities, fined £4 and cost 3 for carrying passengers in the Cleopatra, that vessel not being licensed to cany passengers. This should be a warning to masters of vessels.
