THE HAWKE’S BAY AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY’S SHOW.
The annual exhibition of stock and produce, in connection with the Hawke's Bay Agricultural Society, came off as advertised in our last issue at Mr Maney’s yards, Meanee, on Wednesday, and was not so successful as we could have wished to see it.
Owing principally to the almost unprecedented drought of the "past season, we presume exhibitors were hot in a position to make any striking show; still, there were some very fine draught stock brought forward, and also some short-horned cows and heifers which were highly creditable to the exhibitors and the Province.
The whole of the sheep exhibited were of the long-woolled kind. Of these, Colonel Whitmore’s imported Leicesters, and Mr M. Hill’s celebrated Kirkbam Lincolns were perfect in their kind. Merinos were not brought forward, being reserved by the breeders for the November show, at which they will be exhibited in their wool.
Some very superior hogs were also brought forward. Of produce exhibited the principal articles were barley and potato, —the former of excellent quality, and the latter very fine. A few agricultural implements were also shown which were much approved. The following is a complete list of the entries:—
