DISTRICT PRIZE FIRING.
COLONIAL PRIZE FIRING.
The firing for tbe di-trict prizes annually • given by the General Government came off at the rifle range on the beach on Monday last, 17th inst. Owing to the boisterous state of the weather, the firing was very indifferent. Below will be found .the detailed score of the firing for the FIBST CLASS PRIZES. -
* The members of the Mounted Constabulary are distinguished front the Volunteers by an asterisk.
It will be seen that G. Blake - and Northe were a tie. This was shot for at the close of the day, each competitor having * two shots at 400 yards. Both made a centre the first shot, but, at the second, Blake scored 4 and Northe 1, so that the former was declared the winner of the first prize of the first class. The tie for the second prize (between Renouf and Cress* well) was shot for on Tuesday morning, when the former made a miss, the latter making a centre and carrying off the prize.
SECOND CLASS PBIZES.
The above was shot for by men belonging to the several militia companies in* and about Napier. Their scores show a slight improvement on the firing of the Competitors for the first class prizes. The winner, Andrew Blake, vyill take toe first prize of the second class and the medal for the best shot in the district. Subjoined will be found the scores:—
The preliminary competitive firing took place yesterday. The shooting was anything but satisfactory—the result being that 35 points (out of a possible.B4) was the highest number 'scored, and that, in consequence—the score of 39 made at the country firing being also below the mini-mum—-the Province of Hawke’s Bay will ba without a representative at the forth* coming Colonial Prize Firing to take place at Wellington. The ranges were 400,500, and 600 yards, and as, unfortunately, we cannot in this issue publish toe detailed scores, we give below the name of each competitor, with the number of points made at each range, and the totals: —
