THE PLANKING FOR THE NEW WHARF.
TO THE EDITOR Or, THE TIMES. Sir, —l wish to know, through the medium of your valuable paper, whether it 'is the general rule of the Provincial Government ofHawkds Bay, when they require materials for any work—the planking for the new wharf on the Eastern Spit, for instance, — to give the order to a private person, without calling for tenders ? The Government must he well aware of the fact that there are many persons in Napier who would have tendered for supplying the planking referred to; and, Sir, I cannot help remarking that there seems to he great favor shown to a certain individual for providing materials to repair Government works on the SpU. I suppose it is the same as with the wharf itself: the party has got his own price for it, and if he has got the figure I have heard, he will make ■■ a good thitig out of it.’ Hoping you will oblige me by publishing the above,—l am, ffc., ' ' ' ■ ' FAIR PLAY.
